In an effort to increase in the number of degree qualified early childhood teachers, the Department of Education and Communities (DEC) is offering 100 scholarships to eligible early childhood educators to upgrade their qualifications to bachelor degree level.
Effective early childhood teachers are our most important resource for building quality early childhood education and care in NSW. Most importantly, we need to build a workforce that is sustainable, especially in rural and regional areas.
Scholarship holders will receive an allowance that they can use to cover study costs such as text books, resources, travel costs or living expenses associated with upgrading their qualification.
Students can opt to study a part-time or full-time load and will receive up to $10,000 over the course of their qualification. To be eligible for admission to the scholarship program you need to:
- demonstrate that you are an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status
- have completed a Certificate III or equivalent, Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification in Children's Services or Early Childhood Education
- have been accepted into and are due to commence the first semester of an approved bachelor level early childhood teaching qualification listed on the website of the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority ACECQA
As part of the DEC’s commitment to building a sustainable workforce in rural and regional NSW, preference will be given to applicants working in low socio-economic status areas, particularly those working in Connected Communities locations. Preference will also be given to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.
