As a combined effort at TAFE NSW Illawarra Moruya, the Certificate III in Hairdressing students coiffed hair and the Certificate III in Beauty Services students created characters for the Welcome to Disneyland show.
Months in the planning, the Hairdressing apprentices in collaboration with the Beauty students, showcased their skills and learning.
Krystal Sellen, a 17-year-old School Based Apprentice has ambitions to complete her apprenticeship and further develop skills in the Beauty and Make-up industry.
“My favourite aspects of Hairdressing are using colour and design to create a look that makes a person feel confident and happy with their appearance,” says Krystal.
Arkey Michael, a TVET student completed the Certificate II in Hairdressing while she was at school to make it easier for her to secure an apprenticeship and she is now busy completing the Certificate III in Hairdressing.
“My favourite thing about my job is meeting new people every day,” says Arkey. She hopes to continue learning new skills and one day own her own salon.
Angelina, a mature-aged student has her own salon and wants to build the reputation of her business as unique and innovative.
“I love colouring and being part of the process that makes clients feel happy and confident,” says Angelina.
Students prepared their models with a character ‘total look’ including hair, make-up and costumes.
The students dedication is inspiring with some travelling as far afield as Ulladulla in the north and Eden in the south.
