Yass HSC student and school-based trainee, Caitlyn Douven has successfully juggled her Higher School Certificate and TAFE studies to become job ready as an Early Childhood Educator.
Caitlyn combined her studies with the Higher School Certificate and the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care studies at TAFE NSW Illawarra Yass over the last two years.
As part of the School Based Traineeship program, Caitlyn trained with the Yass Early Childhood Association to get on the job training and industry experience.
Coming from a family of five children and regular babysitting gigs, Caitlyn is embarking on the first step of her ambitions to become a Child Psychologist.
“I love children and I wanted to get higher qualifications for a job,” she says.
Caitlyn’s interest in children and the desire for a career has inspired the young student to take on the additional study that is required for a School-Based Traineeship.
“My teachers at TAFE were really supportive and realised the stress of the HSC,” she says.
“Kerrie-Anne Smith (my teacher) was always there for me and believed in me; she never gave up.”
Fiona Nolan, Yass Early Childhood Centre Association Director spoke highly of Caitlyn’s work ethic over the past two years.
“Caitlyn has been marvellous and is an asset to the organisation. The children adore her,” says Fiona.
“This is our first traineeship experience and it has been very positive,” she says.
