It’s almost time for TAFE Illawarra’s Sixth Annual Corporate Golf Day. Put 5 September 2014 in your diary and secure your ticket before it sells out!

Time: 7.30 am Tee off

The Corporate Golf Day is a chance for the local Illawarra businesses to unite in a day of networking, team building and an outing away from the office. The day will be played in Ambrose format with an 8am Tee off, novelty events (including 'hole-in-one' prize Ford Kuga, courtesy of sponsor Volcan Ford Wollongong), a sit down Lunch, raffles and auctions.

About the event

TAFE Illawarra’s event management students and local business leaders have teed up to support The Thomas Kelly Youth Foundation with their sixth Annual Corporate Golf Day on 5 September 2014 at The Links Shell Cove.

The annual event, which is a collaborative initiative between TAFE Illawarra teaching staff, students and local industry, is designed to provide students with an opportunity to put theory into practice while also providing support to a local charitable organisation.

Operating under the name [event]ure, the group of Diploma of Event Management students from TAFE Illawarra’s Wollongong Campus are responsible for managing the event as part of their studies, driving everything from the event planning, securing sponsorship and running a marketing campaign.

Sponsorship support

To date, the students have already successfully re-signed long term Platinum Partners, IMB Better Value Banking and the University of Wollongong’s (UOW) Faculty of Business.

TAFE Illawarra Teacher of Event Management, Georgina Davies, said: “As Platinum Partners, IMB and UOW provide the students with an invaluable forum outside the classroom to learn from Illawarra’s finest business leaders.

“This year, the students have also secured support from our Print Partner of six years, PRINTMEDIA, uniform sponsor, also of six years Aceit Clothing and their Hole in One Sponsor now of three years Volcon Ford Wollongong.

“Leaders from each organisation offer the students insights into the many aspects of business and events management in the lead up to the Golf Day, which always has a significant impact on the student’s study and career aspirations.”

A fantastic experience for students

TAFE Illawarra Diploma of Event Management student, Stephanie Masella, is responsible for the marketing and media aspects of the event.

“It’s such a fantastic experience to be involved in and a great opportunity for us to learn what goes behind putting together a first-class event,” said Stephanie.

“There are already nine teams committed to the event and we have some amazing auction items up for grabs, such as a helicopter flight over Sydney and an overnight stay in an Opera Room at the Marriott Hotel – and we haven’t even gone to market yet.

“Having received so much support already is really motivating. We’re endeavouring to provide an amazing experience by showcasing the skills and knowledge we’ve learnt during our studies.

“The whole learning experience and success of the event will be a credit to those mentoring us. With Industry leaders like Terry Widdicombe from IMB Better Value Bank dedicating their time to provide us with assistance on a weekly basis is fantastic and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

Giving back to the community

The net profits form the event will be donated to The Thomas Kelly Youth Foundation, to help raise awareness on the harsh tragedies of alcohol-fuelled violence and support the foundation in creating a healthier and safer community.

TAFE Illawarra student Belinda Tololeski said: “It’s important to give back to the community and we feel the charity we have chosen hits close to home and is a great cause we all support.”

The [event]ure team are calling on members of the local community to sign-up for the event and take part in a fun-filled day of recognition, support, education and awareness.

Event raffle

Can’t make it to the day? The raffle tickets for the event are open to anyone i.e. you don’t need to attend the event to win! The main raffle prize, courtesy of International Publishing Group (IPG), is a spectacular 45-minute return-flight helicopter experience to the Hunter Valley to dine at Molines Bistro.
