Young people under 17 years of age

If you are under 17 years of age and thinking of leaving school,  NSW law requires all students to remain in school until Year 10.

After completing Year 10, young people are required to continue in full-time education, training, paid employment or a combination of these until at least the age of 17 years.

If you are 15 or over, and under 17 and wish to leave school and enrol at TAFE NSW, you will need to have either completed Year 10 or have special permission from school and TAFE NSW to complete a Year 10 equivalent at TAFE nsw.

For further information on the process for applying to a complete Year 10 equivalent at TAFE NSW, contact your High School Principal or call TAFE NSW on 1300 766 123.
